The train ride from the city of Riobamba is a unique experience, where the route passes through an incredible scenery and cultural diversity. See the rich tapestry of carefully and well cultivated Andean highlands, contrasting with the rough and rugged landscape of the moorland. The Trans-Andean railway is a spectacular attraction for domestic and foreign tourists who want to experience a variety of climates, and cultural and natural scenery of the central valley, which is known as the Avenue of the Volcanoes.
Day 1: Leave Quito at 8 a.m. and drive south through the avenue of the volcanoes to an authentic Indian market. Depending on the day visit a market at: Latacunga (Tuesday and Saturday), Pujilí (Wednesday and Sunday), Saquisilí (Thursday) or visit the Cotopaxi National Park. Both include lunch in a colonial hacienda. Continue to Guano (famous for its rugs and hand woven tapestries) and Riobamba.
Day 2: The train leaves in the morning from the train station located in the center of the city of Riobamba. Ride to Devil's Nose, located at 2346 meters over sea level. Pass the gaps of Cajabamba, Colta and Guamote small town, which has an endless landscape and offers visitors culture, folklore and handicrafts that are present in the Indian fair. The train takes you behind the Chimborazo and it reaches the desert of Palmyra. Continuing the journey, the train passes by the prudent and cautious "Golden Ball", a place full of legends and appearances that amaze and thrill the listeners. Afterward, drive back to Quito
